About Afterrealism
Afterrealism is a small geospatial software consultancy in Canberra. We build maps, data platforms, and cloud systems for organisations across Australia to a standard set inside Geoscience Australia and CSIRO.
Small is the point: you work directly with the founder, your decisions ship, and you can see exactly where your work lands.
About the role
You'll build the user-facing side of our geospatial platforms: React applications that turn complex spatial data into dashboards, maps, and tools people actually want to use.
You'll work with our design system, our GIS team, and our backend engineers to ship interfaces that are fast, accessible, and visually precise. MapLibre, deck.gl, and modern React are your tools.
What you'll do
- Build React applications with TypeScript
- Integrate mapping libraries (MapLibre, deck.gl, Leaflet)
- Build data visualisation components (charts, tables, dashboards)
- Work with design systems and Figma handoffs
- Optimise for performance, accessibility, and Core Web Vitals
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of React development with TypeScript
- Modern React patterns (hooks, context, suspense, server components)
- State management (Zustand, Redux, or similar)
- CSS-in-JS or Tailwind experience
- Component testing (Vitest, React Testing Library, or Playwright)
Nice to have
- MapLibre, deck.gl, or Leaflet experience
- Next.js or Remix experience
- Data visualisation libraries (D3, Recharts, visx)
- Design system contribution experience
