Now boarding: 8 open roles

Afterrealism is a small geospatial consultancy in Canberra. We build maps, data platforms, and cloud systems for organisations across Australia — to a standard set inside Geoscience Australia and CSIRO.

Small is the point. You work directly with the founder, your decisions ship, and you can see exactly where your work lands.

Why here The honest pitch

No ping-pong tables, no mission statements about changing the world. Here's what working here is actually like.

The work is genuinely interesting

Machine learning on satellite imagery, cloud-native mapping, real-time data. Systems we've built serve 10M+ map tiles a day for national agencies — and we publish what we learn along the way.

No layers

You work directly with the founder — an engineer, not a manager of managers. Decisions take a conversation, not a committee. If something's slowing you down, it gets removed.

Your work ships

A small team means real responsibility: what you build goes to production for government agencies and growing businesses. Nothing dies in a backlog.

Balance is structural

Flexible hours, remote-friendly, AEST without the crunch. We're built around a sustainable pace — not perks that apologise for the lack of one.

Life here Mountains at lunch, lake before work

Canberra is the quiet advantage: Australia's densest concentration of science agencies, fifteen minutes from mountain trails, the lake, and a decent flat white. We work AEST hours at a sustainable pace — and remote within Australia works too.

How hiring works

Four steps, no black holes. You'll always know where you stand.

Apply

Send your CV and a short cover letter through the role page. A human reads every application — usually within a few days.

Intro call

30 minutes with the founder. No trick questions — just your work, our work, and whether they fit.

Practical task

A short, real-world task. A few hours, not a take-home week — and never a whiteboard puzzle.

Offer

A reference check and a written offer. Days, not months.
