iOS Developer (Native)

Contract · part-time or full-time Canberra / Remote

Build native iOS apps that bring our geospatial platforms to iPhones and iPads — Swift, SwiftUI, and maps that work offline.

About Afterrealism

Afterrealism is a small geospatial software consultancy in Canberra. We build maps, data platforms, and cloud systems for organisations across Australia to a standard set inside Geoscience Australia and CSIRO.

Small is the point: you work directly with the founder, your decisions ship, and you can see exactly where your work lands.

About the role

You'll own the iOS side of our mobile practice: building native apps that put our maps and spatial tools in the hands of field teams across Australia.

Our clients run iPhones and iPads in harsh, low-connectivity environments. You'll build apps that cache data locally, sync intelligently, and stay responsive when the network doesn't exist.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and ship native iOS apps in Swift
  • Build offline-first map experiences with local caching and spatial storage
  • Implement background location, geofencing, and sync services
  • Work with our web and Android teams on shared APIs and data contracts
  • Publish to and maintain apps on the App Store

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of native iOS development (Swift)
  • SwiftUI and modern iOS architecture (async/await, Combine, Core Data or SwiftData)
  • MapKit or MapLibre experience
  • Background tasks, push notifications, and battery-efficient location services
  • Published apps you can point to

Nice to have

  • Geospatial or field-data collection app experience
  • Core Location, Core Motion, and sensor fusion
  • TestFlight and App Store Connect CI/CD
  • Awareness of Kotlin Multiplatform or KMP shared logic
